Habitat
Humans have resulted in the major loss of tiger habitat. Humans clear the forest forests for developments of road networks. This forces tigers to move to small and usually scattered habitat patches.
Illegal Trade (Poaching)
Despite the international ban on tiger trade in 1993, demand for tigers as status symbols, decoration, and folk cures has led to a new poaching crisis. Poaching is driven by the international illegal wildlife trade, the largest immediate threat to the tiger population.
Limited Prey
Tigers prey, such as deer and antelope are also declining due to poaching , competition with livestock over food and habitat degradation because of excessive wood removal for fires.
Conflict with Humans
Since tigers are continually losing their habitat and normal prey species, they are increasingly coming into conflict with humans as they attack domestic animals, and sometimes tigers attack people. As a result tigers are often killed by enraged villagers.
